
PETER BÖTTCHER

Prof. Peter Böttcher completed his veterinary education in Munich, graduating in 1996. He further completed an internship and residency in small animal surgery at the same institution between 1998 and 2002, subsequently achieving Diplomate status in 2004.
In 2002, Dr. Böttcher joined the Department of Small Animal Medicine at the University of Leipzig, where he led the surgical service from 2007 until 2016. He was appointed Associate Professor in 2011 and elevated to Full Professor at the Small Animal Clinic of the Free University of Berlin 2016, serving as the Managing Director from 2017 to 2021.
Dr. Böttcher's research interests focus on joint biomechanics—especially relating to the elbow and stifle joints, arthroscopy, fluoroscopic gait analysis, joint resurfacing, and rapid prototyping techniques for patient-specific solutions.
As of March 2024, Dr. Böttcher has transitioned from academia to co-found the “Mitteldeutsches Kompetenzzentrum für Kleintier,” a privately-owned specialist center in Leipzig, dedicated to advancing modern small animal medicine by leveraging patient-specific solutions developed in collaboration with animalTECH, a company specializing in additive manufacturing of custom implants, surgical guides, and educational models.
