
MICHAEL FARRELL
DVM, Dipl ECVS
Mike Farrell graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1997 and became an ECVS Diplomate in 2007. He has authored over 60 papers, case reports and book chapters in small animal orthopaedics, covering fracture repair, joint disease, surgical techniques, and clinical outcomes.
He has held senior clinical roles in Australia, New Zealand and the UK, including Fitzpatrick Referrals, Davies Veterinary Specialists, and Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists, and is currently a consultant at Anderson Abercromby Veterinary Referrals.
His recent work includes a 2025 multicentre study on musculoskeletal adverse events in dogs receiving bedinvetmab (Librela), undertaken with an international, multidisciplinary group including Felix Waibel, a specialist in neuro-osteoarthropathy, and Mark I. Greene, a leading authority on monoclonal antibody development, alongside specialists in surgery, diagnostic imaging and veterinary anaesthesia.
He has a particular interest in surgical training and aptitude, and will present his current research on dexterity and spatial awareness in surgeons at this meeting, alongside lectures exploring variation in specialist opinion and whether innate ability influences surgical performance.
