
IGNACIO CALVO
DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVS
Nacho graduated from the University of Cordoba (Spain) in 2000. He then completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, followed by completion of a 3-year Small Animal Surgery Residency at the same institution.
Nacho obtained the RCVS certificate in small animal surgery in 2009 (CertSAS), the European Diploma in Small Animal Surgery (Dipl ECVS) in 2012 and his PhD for studies into the Tibial Tuberosity Advancement procedure in 2016.
Before joining the Universidad Europea de Madrid as head of surgery and hospital director, Nacho held the positions of Lecturer in Small Animal Surgery at University College Dublin, Lecturer and Head of Small Animal Orthopaedic Surgery at Glasgow Vet School, Senior Clinician in Orthopaedics at Fitzpatrick's Referrals, Senior Lecturer and Head of Small Animal Orthopaedics at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in London and Head of Orthoapedics at Anicura Vetsia Hospital in Madrid.
Nacho is an active member and faculty at AOVET, where he was the chairperson of the AOVET European and South African Board and member of the AOVET International Board between 2022 and 2025. Nacho has over 30 peer reviewed scientific publications.
