EVELIEN DE BAKKER
DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVS
Evelien de Bakker has built her professional career within the Orthopaedics service at the Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine of Ghent University, where she combines clinical expertise with a strong research focus. After completing a PhD on the diagnosis of primary and concomitant flexor enthesopathy in the canine elbow, she continued to develop her interest in minimally invasive orthopaedic techniques, both in research and in practice. Her postdoctoral work explored stem cell therapy for orthopaedic conditions and led to the development of a minimally invasive canine model. She later pursued and completed an ECVS residency, becoming a diplomate in 2024. In her current role as doctor assistant, she enjoys guiding patients and students alike, sharing her enthusiasm for orthopaedic surgery while contributing to teaching in the clinic and supporting the next generation of veterinarians. Alongside this, she continues to refine and advance orthopaedic care through arthroscopy, surgery, and ongoing research.
